Mjejane Reserve etiquette

Mjejane is a working Big 5 reserve. These rules protect you and the animals, and the reserve fines guests who break them.

Arriving and leaving

  • Check-in is from 14:00 until 19:00. Check-out is by 10:00 at the latest. After that, a fine of R1,000 per hour applies.
  • Private vehicles must stay on the main road when entering and leaving the reserve.

Game drives

  • All game drives on the reserve must be led by a registered field guide in an open safari vehicle. No self-drives in private vehicles are allowed.

In the house

  • No more than 10 people, including babies and children, may stay in the house.
  • Keep volumes low at all times. There is a zero-noise tolerance at night, and you will be fined.
  • No white lights from the lodge after dark. Red filters must be used.

Wildlife and safety

  • Animals can get through the electric fence at any time. Stay vigilant: active predators have been on the patio at night on many occasions.
  • The reserve is home to dangerous animals. Contact management if you meet any such visitors.
  • No jogging at any time, and no walking around at night, for your own safety.
  • Feeding animals and birds is strictly prohibited. It is a serious offence, and fed monkeys, warthogs and baboons become pests that can be dangerous to people.
  • Monkeys can be bothersome. When you see them, close windows and doors until they pass, or they will raid the kitchen cupboards.

Photography

  • Do not geotag any images of rhino, even after your stay. This protects the species from poaching.

If reserve rules are not followed, guests are held liable for the resulting fines.
