What to pack, where to stock up and how to find the gate.
What to pack
Mjejane is self-catering. The house supplies towels, toiletries, a full kitchen and a bar. Bring the rest.
Food and drinks
- Plan your meals in advance: the lodge is self-catering.
- Bring your favourite coffee, tea, milk and drinks.
- Pack snacks: biltong, chips and other munchables.
- Don't forget salt, pepper, spices, cooking oil and serviettes.
Outdoor comfort
- Two bags of wood are provided daily. Arrange more with management if needed (extra cost may apply).
- Insect repellent for mosquitoes.
- Sunblock, sunglasses and hats.
- Swimwear, and safety gear for children in the pool.
Clothing
- Warm clothes for winter game drives.
- Shorts, a shirt, a bush hat and closed shoes cover most occasions.
Cameras
- Bring a camera and binoculars.
Medical kit
- Allergy pills and pain relievers
- Antiseptic cream
- Heartburn tablets and anti-diarrhoea medicine
- Cold and flu tablets
Malaria
Mjejane is in a moderate-risk malaria area.
Ask a healthcare professional for current advice on malaria precautions and prophylaxis before you travel.
On site, use a repellent such as Peaceful Sleep or Tabard, available in local stores.
Stocking up
Malelane and Komatipoort are about 20 minutes away. Arrive with drinks, bread, milk and the first night's dinner so you can relax as soon as you arrive.

The closest Woolworths, for extra grocery options on the way in.
Directions
About five hours' drive from Gauteng, or 45 minutes from Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport.
From Nelspruit by road
- Head east on the N4 towards Komatipoort and Maputo.
- Continue through Malelane towards Hectorspruit, about 15 km.
- Pass Hectorspruit (an Engen garage on the left) and continue for another 2.5 km.
- The Mjejane Game Reserve gate is on your left, with a small gate and Mjejane signs.
By air
- Fly into Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA), just outside Nelspruit, with connections from Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.
- Car hire is available at the airport.
- Shuttles can be booked from KMIA: ask the reservations team.
On the way
- Malelane has shops, medical facilities and garages, less than 20 minutes from the reserve.
- Three golf courses are 15 to 30 minutes' drive away.
Book the river
Reserve the whole lodge online, or ask us for rates and dates. A 50% deposit secures your booking.
